Healthcare professionals have come to the Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine’s Bradenton, FL, campus ready to take their leadership skills to the next level. Eleven students, including seven physicians have enrolled in an online Masters in Health Services Administration (MHSA) course.
The LECOM MHSA program provides students with the knowledge and skills required to plan, direct, and coordinate medical and health services while working as administrators in hospital or other healthcare facilities, public healthcare organizations, and private practice groups. The knowledge gained from the MHSA is essential for fiscal, planning and managerial work in healthcare organizations and the establishment and management of clinical practices.
"The MHSA program is designed to provide working professionals and full-time students with the skills needed to become top administrators in healthcare fields" says Mark Kauffman, D.O., Assistant Dean of Graduate Studies. “Exceptional health care requires a team of skilled professionals whose influence assures the delivery of quality care by providers and institutions and impacts health policy formulation. With the skills and knowledge gained in this program, our students will be prepared for leadership roles in health care institutions and public health sectors.”
The U.S. Department of Labor Bureau of Labor and Statistics estimates that employment of health service administrators will grow by 22 percent from 2010 to 2020, faster than the average for all occupations, and receive a median annual pay of $84,270. The program offers degree completion in 18 months for working professionals (January cohort) and 24 months (June cohort) for full-time students. More than 90 percent of the curriculum will be taught via distance education.
