The American Hospital Association (AHA) has named Broward Health a 2014 Innovator Award Finalist in its Most Wired Survey for its information technology (IT) project “Radiology Process Meets Technology”.
The “Radiology Process Meets Technology” project was steered at Broward Health Medical Center (BHMC) under the leadership of Dr. Nabil El Sanadi, chief of emergency medicine for Broward Health, and Dr. David Ring, BHMC radiologist. BHMC’s Radiology and Emergency Medicine departments piloted the multi-disciplinary IT initiative that re-engineered the use of wireless technology. The chief innovators from Broward Health’s IT department, Chuck Wainwright and Boris Kalitenko, designed a network solution that enabled portable ultrasound machines to transmit data to the enterprise PACS system wirelessly.
The project increased workflow efficiencies and cost effective business options for every stage of image processing, from order entry to report posting. Because of its initial success, the initiative was implemented at all Broward Health facilities.
