Kids and the Power of Work (KAPOW) is a national business/education partnership program designed to give elementary school youth exposure to the world of work. Once a year, all students in the program visit participating businesses and engage in hands-on, work-related experiences. Broward Health Imperial Point (BHIP) was happy to be chosen for a second year as a participating business.
This year BHIP welcomed 37 Tamarac Elementary School 4th graders to participate in a career day with the theme “It takes a village.” Children were exposed to many different departments and careers within the hospital. After engaging presentations by nurses, police officers, and administration the children were taken on tours of the emergency room, facilities department, and laboratory. They learned how patients are treated, how the facility is powered and taken care of behind the scenes, as well as what healthy vs unhealthy tissues look like.
