Mercedes K.C. Dullum, M.D., Named 2005 Physician of the Year

Cardiothoracic surgeon Mercedes K.C. Dullum, M.D., surgical director of the Heart Failure Center at Cleveland Clinic Florida Weston, received the coveted 2005 Physician of the Year Award at the 7th Annual Excellence in Healthcare Awards. This award is designed to honor a South Florida physician who has made a significant impact either through the practice of medicine or work in the community. Dr. Dullum is extremely active within the medical community and currently serves as a member of 16 medical societies, including the Society of Thoracic Surgeons, American College of Cardiology, Caribbean Cardiac Society, and Women in Thoracic Surgery, for which she is the immediate past-president.

Dr. Dullum applies her nearly two decades of surgical experience as an editorial board member of The Heart Surgery Forum, co-editor of the CTS Net Beating Heart Center, a reviewer of the Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery, and an editorial board member for the International Society of Minimally Invasive Cardiac Surgery. She is also a cardiac surgery consultant for the American Board of Thoracic Surgery and an advisory board member for the Georgia Tech/Emory Department of Biomedical Engineering.
