Healthcare Summit of the Caribbean Basin Draws Seven Nations & International Insurers to Jackson Memorial Hospital

Health Ministers, Permanent Secretaries of Health, Government Health and Insurance Officials from nine nations in the Caribbean Basin, as well as key regional international insurance companies, participated in the “1st Annual Mini-Conference for Healthcare Policy Makers” under the auspices of the 30th Annual Miami Conference on the Caribbean Basin.

The December mini-conference was organized and led by S. Shai Gold, vice president of International Medical Services at Jackson Memorial Hospital. The theme of the mini-conference was “Catastrophic Medical Services – The Collaborative Approach to Containing the Fiscal and Social Consequences of Limited Catastrophic Care Infrastructure.”

“The conference brought international healthcare policy makers and business leaders together to discuss how to improve the region’s interaction with Jackson Memorial Hospital’s catastrophic care capabilities in the context of improved planning and management of medical expertise, cost of care and broader availability of commercial insurance models for nations with a small population base. This regional healthcare summit is essential for building bridges of communication and collaboration with our neighbors,” Gold said.

Revenue from our international outreach helps support the charity care mission of Jackson Health System,” stated Gold.
