North Shore Medical Center recently announced that it has opened a sleep disorders center to test and treat patients for conditions such as insomnia and sleep apnea. The center which will be headed by Medical Director Carlos Santos, M.D., pulmonary and internal medicine has two diagnostic beds that will be used to perform sleep studies, in which patients will be monitored overnight while tests record brain activity, eye movement, heart rate and other factors that are indicative of sleep and sleep-stage disorders.
