Pediatric Pathologist to Receive “Guardian Angel Award”

Carmen Steigman, M.D., was recently honored by the Healthy Mothers-Healthy Babies Coalition of Broward County for her work to find the root of infant mortality in Broward County. Steigman is the Medical Director of Pediatric Pathology Services at Chris Evert Children’s Hospital at the Broward General Medical Center.

Kathy Dunbar, executive director of Healthy Mothers-Healthy Babies, says the decision to honor Steigman with the Guardian Angel Award is based on her, “outstanding dedication to babies and children of our county.”

In her role as a pediatric pathologist, Steigman focuses on understanding the deaths of babies from 20 weeks gestation to one year of age. Determining the cause of death provides information used in studies aimed at lowering infant mortality rates, particularly in at-risk communities.
