Dr. Melissa Singer of West Palm Beach and Cara Catalfumo of Palm Beach Gardens were named National Woman of the Year and Runner-up, respectively, for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s 2007 Man & Woman of the Year campaign. In ten short weeks, these ladies raised more than $430,000 to help The Society fund lifesaving research and provide services to patients and their families.

Dr. Melissa Singer from Pediatric Hematology Oncology raised more than $289,000. Dr. Singer reached this goal by receiving over 400 donations from over 25 states and 8 countries. Dr. Singer’s commitment to The Society comes from her dedication to her patients and their families.

In the past, the highest amount that had been raised nationally by a candidate was $159,000. Dr. Singer has definitely set the bar to a whole new level for the organization.

Cara Catalfumo from Catalfumo Construction and Development raised more than $141,000, which earned her the title of Runner-up National Woman of the Year. Catalfumo, a Palm Beach County native, has been actively involved in the community since childhood. She chose to participate in this event due to her long-standing awareness of how The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society has gone on to help so many kids suffering from cancer in the past.

The Society has also announced their National Man of the Year, Brandon Stevens of Kansas, who raised more than $179,000 and Runner up, Russ Parker of Orange County – California, raised over $165,000.
