Bethesda Memorial Hospital proudly announces the opening of an all-new Computed Tomography (CT) imaging suite. Located in the hospitals Emergency Department, the suite contains two new CT scanners from Siemens Medical Solutions, the SOMATOM® Definition with breakthrough cardiac imaging capabilities and the 40-Slice SOMATOM® Sensation. The suite includes a two-bed holding bay and direct access to both the Emergency Department and Bethesda Heart Institute.
Bethesda is one of five facilities in Florida to offer the Definition’s dual source CT system which produces images with twice the resolution and speed of the most advanced single-source CT systems.
Faster than a heartbeat, the Definition uses two X-ray sources and is capable of capturing clear, motion free images of a heart beating faster than 100 beats per minute, eliminating the need to use beta-blockers for most patients. Conventional 64-slice CT scanners require the use of beta blockers to slow the heart rate to 55-60 beats per minute, which can require a patient preparation time exceeding an hour.
The Definition has enhanced capabilities not previously available from any type of diagnostic imaging technology. The dual source capabilities provide physicians the ability to perform exams at two different X-ray energy levels, which allows them to obtain diverse information about the anatomy in a single scan.
In addition, Bethesda has added the Sensation as a designated CT scanner available for the Emergency Department and hospital inpatients.
With the industry’s fastest rotation time and the highest spatial resolution, the Sensation has the capability to visualize the finest anatomical details in crisp-clear images with exceptional accuracy. With the ability to detect the amount of radiation required for each individual patient, it utilizes only what is necessary to produce diagnostic images with the lowest radiation exposure possible.
