Digital mammography images have been proven to be more effective in detecting breast cancer than standard film imaging, according to industry research. Now, Memorial Regional Hospital will give more patients greater access to digital mammography through a new mammography van.
Funds for the $300,000 van were raised by the hospitals auxiliary. In recognition of the countless hours spent fundraising by auxiliary volunteers, their faces decorate the exterior of the mammography van. The 40-foot vehicle, which features state-of-the-art technology, will hit the road in June with initial stops scheduled at corporations.

“Our auxiliary members have been committed to reaching this important goal, providing a valuable addition to the communitys healthcare services,” said David Reinmund, director of Volunteer Services.
A grant from the Miami/Ft. Lauderdale affiliate of Susan G. Komen For the Cure will fund mammography services to underserved women in their South Broward and North Dade communities. The funds will be administered through the Memorial Foundation. The Memorial Foundation, established in 1981, provides philanthropic support that supplements the income from payors and tax revenues received by Memorial Healthcare System. This type of giving helps Memorial fulfill its mission to provide safe, quality, cost-effective, customer-focused healthcare services to its patients, regardless of ability to pay.
