The Health Council of South Florida (HCSF) recently hosted Rubies & Rhythm in celebration of its 40th Anniversary. With over 270 attendees the HCSF successfully noted 40 years of service to Miami-Dade and Monroe County communities as the preferred strategic partner for community-based planning.

Over the last four decades, the Health Council has successfully proven its innovation and adaptability, its sensitivity to cultural diversity and social awareness, and has built strong community partnerships with neighboring counties, said Marisel Losa, President & CEO for the Health Council. I will continue to embrace the spirit of the Health Council, respectfully, nurturing its passage into the next 40 years. The significance of the Health Council is proven and its commitment to the future is present.

Dr. Rafael Mas, Chief Medical Director for Leon Medical Centers, presented the Outstanding Health Advocate Award to Benjamin Leon, Jr., Founder of Leon Medical Centers and Leon Medical Centers Health Plans; while Robert Bob Levy, President of Robert M. Levy & Associates, presented the Exceptional Community Service Award to World Renown Artist Romero Britto.
Benefits from this event will help to enable the HCSF to carry on its mission to be the source of unbiased health data; quality program planning, management and evaluation; strong community partnerships in Miami-Dade and Monroe Counties and targeted healthcare policy at the local, state, and national levels. Funds collected also contributed to the HCSF Scholarship Fund established to address the healthcare professional shortage in our community. This scholarship will be awarded annually to an eligible student in the health or medical field. Ed Rosasco, FACHE, HCSF Board Treasurer, presented the scholarship award this year to Dean John Rock, M.D., FIU College of Medicine, Senior Vice President for Medical Affairs, who accepted the award on behalf of a student in the first incoming class of the FIU College of Medicine.
