Lower Keys Medical Center has completed construction of its expanded emergency room. The Key West hospital has added 5 additional patient care areas, along with new computers and cardiac monitors with 12 lead EKG capabilities in its main ER area.
The hospital staff understands that no one wants to wait in an emergency situation. For this reason, the hospital has implemented a new program called “ER Extra” that is focused on making sure patients see an emergency room physician faster and easier. ER Extra will help Lower Keys Medical Center reduce its average length of stay well below the national average. Upon arrival, each ER patient will receive a copy of the “ER Extra Emergency Room Experience Guide.” This guide explains the emergency room process, one step at a time. “Knowing what to expect next will help to calm our patients and reduce their stress levels, said Sheila Duncan, Director of Emergency Services.
