North Broward Medical Center is a 409 bed community hospital and part of Broward Health, one of the ten largest public health systems in the nation. - NBMCs newly remodeled Comprehensive Cancer Center began treating patients with Broward Countys first and only Cyberknife®, a non-invasive alternative to conventional surgery for the advanced treatment of Cancer. NBMCs Cancer Center was re-accredited by the American College of Surgeons with four commendations.
- Our team is using Broward Countys first hospital based 128 slice CT scanner which produces spectacular images offering clinicians unprecedented information and significant radiation protection for patients.
- The multidisciplinary team at the NBMC Joint Replacement Center has performed over 400 anterior hip replacements using the innovative hana® table which allows surgeons to replace the hip from the front with no post operative precautions. Patients enjoy private rooms, group physical therapy and family centered patient education in a motivational fun environment to encourage speedy recovery.
- Surgeons at NBMC are performing a new technologically advanced minimally invasive surgery, SILS- Single Incision Laparoscopic Surgery.
- NBMCs focus on patient safety resulted in a very successful Joint Commission Survey.
- The NBMC Joint Commission Certified Primary Stroke Center received the American Heart Associations Get With The Guidelines Stroke Gold Award. Ten nurses at NBMC have earned the distinction of Certified Registered Neuroscience Nurse (CNRN), the most at any South Florida Hospital. Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit passed the CARF survey with flying colors.
- NBMC earned Quality Respiratory Care Recognition (QRCR), one of only 15% nationally to achieve this award.
- Other innovations include automated Patient Tracking boards in OR and Same Day Surgery Waiting rooms and Medication Bar Coding.
Joint Replacement Center team
- NBMC employees are valued as evidenced by survey results. Employee satisfaction rose from the 30th percentile in 2007 to the 92nd percentile in 2009 and NBMC ranked highest in Broward Health for Employee Satisfaction.
- The NBMC Quality team “Powerful Culture of Safety won 3rd place for Team Display poster at the American Society of World Conference on Quality and Improvement and the Quality Showcase Team competed internationally as well.
- Pauline Grant, CEO was honored at the 2009 Spirit of the Caribbean Awards and received the 2009 Jamaican Milestone Award for Excellence In Healthcare. She was also an Honoree at the 2009 Caribbean American Heritage Month Celebration and selected as one of South Floridas “100 Most Accomplished Blacks in Healthcare” by ICABATM.
- NBMC Memory Disorder Centers annual Senior Dance Stars Event featuring dancers age 65 and over from the tri-county area was attended by over 800 community members. This free event demonstrates the importance for brain fitness for seniors.
- NBMC hosted 1st Annual Take a Loved One to the Doctor Day to emphasize the importance of visiting a physician regularly.
- NBMC hosted 1st Annual MAMMO-PALOOZA in October which generated 342 mammograms in one week and helped to spread awareness about early detection of breast cancer.
- NBMC introduced two new free lecture series, Girl Talk- a lecture series for women, by women physicians, and Weekend Athlete a lecture series geared to staying fit, healthy and active.
- NBMC participates in many Health Fairs such as City of Lighthouse Point, NE Focal Point, City of Pompano Beach, John Knox Village, Century Village, etc.
- NBMC continues to strive to be a healthcare leader in the community through advanced technology, a team approach and community involvement.
