Patrick Moore was a middle schooler when he received exceptional nursing care during an outpatient procedure on his finger. He was so inspired by the nurses that he asked his mom to buy them flowers—and ultimately pursued a career in the profession. Patrick earned his Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Miami in 2019. He now serves as a charge nurse in the Cardiothoracic Stepdown Unit at the UHealth Tower in Miami, where he’s responsible for the safety of 32 patients and making sure his fellow nurses have the resources they need. “When I’m charge nurse and someone wants to praise one of the other nurses, it makes me happy to see that my coworker gets recognition. It shows me my coworkers are making differences,” he says. It makes his day when patients thank him, too. Outside the hospital, Moore enjoys hitting the beach and gym.
