On June 1st, 2024, Patricia Ares-Romero, M.D., F.A.S.A.M., became the sixth female president of the Dade County Medical Association since its founding in 1903. The date was proclaimed Dade County Medical Association Day by the Miami-Dade County Office of the Mayor and the Board of County Commissioners.

“As we look to the year ahead, I am proud to announce that 2024 will be The year of Mental Health and Addiction Awareness at the DCMA”, said Dr. Ares-Romero. “With my background in mental health and addiction medicine, I am acutely aware of the pressing need to address these issues with compassion and urgency, and I am committed to making them a top priority in Miami-Dade during my presidency, encouraging and promoting the DCMA Physician Wellness program as part of the Mental Health awareness initiative offered to our members.”
