Steven D. Wexner, M.D., Chairman of the Department of Colorectal Surgery, Chief Academic Officer and emeritus Chief of Staff at Cleveland Clinic Florida, has been elected President-Elect of the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons (ASCRS). He will assume the presidency in 2011.
Dr. Wexner is also Professor and Associate Dean for Academic Affairs at Florida Atlantic University College of Medicine and Professor and Associate Dean for Clinical Education at Florida International University Wertheim College of Medicine in Miami.
He served as President of the Florida Gastroenterologic Society from 2004 to 2005 and the South Florida Chapter of the American College of Surgeons from 2000-2004.
Dr. Wexner served a three-year term on the Executive Council (2002-2005) and three years as ASCRS Secretary before becoming President-Elect. He also served a two-year term as Vice President of the ASCRS Research Foundation, was a member of the Diseases of the Colon and Rectum Editorial Board from 1998-2005, and senior editor of the ASCRS Textbook from 2006-2011.
In addition, Dr. Wexner was Chair of the Advisory Council for Colon and Rectal Surgeons of the American College of Surgeons from 2004-2006, member of the Residency Review Committee for Colon and Rectal Surgery from 1999-2004, and will continue to serve on the American Board of Colon and Rectal Surgery from 2005-2013. He was a governor of the American College of Surgeons from 2000 to 2006, and President of the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons (SAGES) from 2006 to 2007.
