Lee Health is thrilled to announce that it is the first in Florida to implant a small rechargeable battery with remote programming capabilities to treat patients with movement disorders.

The implementation of the Liberta RC DBS System puts Lee Health at the forefront for the treatment of movement disorders and Parkinson’s Disease. The battery is an Implantable Pulse Generator (IPG), which sends electrical stimulation to the brain to interrupt abnormal signals that are causing symptoms. Deep Brain Stimulation therapy helps patients achieve more control over their symptoms. The Rechargeable (RC) battery brings these components together in a way that hasn’t been done before.

The Liberta RC DBS System offers the longest time between charges of any DBS technology, allowing patients to recharge the device as few as 10 times each year. It uses a wireless charger that is placed over the device and lasts for 37 days on nominal settings.

This battery is going to make a world of difference for our patients with all types of movement disorders.”
