The Miami VA Healthcare System (Miami VAHS) is pleased to announce the opening of the new Miami VAHS Fisher House. This home away from home provides temporary lodging for families and caregivers of Veterans and active duty personnel who are hospitalized at the Bruce W. Carter VA Medical Center.

“We are thrilled to be able to provide a safe, homelike place for family members to stay so they can be close to their loved ones,” said Japhet Rivera, acting Medical Center Director. “Hospitalizations can be a stressful time for both the patient and family, the VA provides the patient centered care and the Fisher House provides a comforting environment and informal support system for family members or caregivers.”

Families and caregivers who live more than 50 miles from the Medical Center and who are able to provide for their own needs are eligible to stay at the Fisher House. Lodging is provided at no cost, and guests can stay for the entire duration of the patient’s hospitalization.
