Barbara Etsy, a Lighthouse Point resident and retiree originally from Maine, has generously given her time serving as a volunteer at Broward Health North for the past 19 years.
“I began volunteering because I wanted to keep active and help people,” Etsy said. “I just enjoy helping out.”
Over the years, Etsy has worked at various places in the hospital. She currently serves as a patient escort two days a week, helping those who come to the hospital for outpatient services like mammograms to reach the departments they are visiting. She also assists with putting patient information kits together.
Before retiring and moving to Florida, Etsy and her husband owned a 48-unit apartment complex in Maine, which she helped manage. Today, in addition to volunteering, Etsy enjoys playing dominoes and bingo.
