For Beth Parets, nursing is more than a profession—it’s a calling. As a manager of the Broward Care Integration Team at Conviva Senior Primary Care, she and a colleague oversee the well-being of patients across 23 centers in the Broward market. Her extensive healthcare experience has fostered her deep dedication and compassion for the elderly community she serves.
Parets’ nursing career began in a hospital, where she spent 12 years specializing in oncology, rehabilitation, and wound care. However, it wasn’t until she began working with older adults that she discovered her true passion.
“This is where my heart is,” she says. “There’s such a need to care for the elderly, especially in South Florida.”
A Privilege to Serve Seniors
Working with seniors gives Parets the chance to care for an often-underserved population. Many of her patients have led rich, full lives but now face challenges such as declining functionality and increased dependence on caregivers. She finds fulfillment in building meaningful relationships, helping them accept care while preserving their autonomy.
“Nobody wants to lose their independence, so allowing someone to assist them is a privilege,” she explains.
She treasures the personal stories her patients share, each one offering a glimpse into a life filled with experience. Over the years, Parets has learned invaluable lessons from the seniors she serves.
“Being a better listener and refraining from quick judgments is key,” she says. “You never know what someone is going through.”
She believes a simple smile or friendly greeting can make a big difference, especially for those with little social interaction.
Supporting Seniors Holistically
Conviva stands out by offering more than just medical care. Its team of social workers, pharmacists, CMAs (certified medical assistants), and access coordinators helps seniors with everything from food assistance to long-term care. In addition, Conviva’s activity centers provide opportunities for seniors to socialize, learn, and stay active, supporting both their physical and emotional well-being.
The holistic approach to care is a major reason why Parets loves her role. The Care Integration Team addresses not only medical needs but also the social and emotional aspects of well-being. From discharge planning to food and housing support, Conviva creates a network that helps seniors live healthier, more fulfilling lives.
“Doctors and nurses truly listen to patients’ needs. I have the best job because I get to lead this incredible team in Broward County,” she says.
Staying Motivated and Focused on Patients
For Parets, staying motivated in such a demanding field comes down to focusing on the patients.
“Amid system changes and workflow adjustments, keeping our patients at the center of our work helps us push forward.”
Through her unwavering passion for nursing and senior care, Parets exemplifies healthcare leadership. She and her team continue to make a profound impact at Conviva, ensuring that seniors receive the care, dignity, and respect they deserve.
Parets offers this advice to anyone considering a career in the medical field: Nursing is a profession that offers tremendous flexibility. Find the path that truly resonates with you—whether in home care, hospitals, pediatrics, or senior care—because when you connect with your passion, it makes all the difference.
