Imperial Point Medical Center (IPMC) has acquired the Telephone Initiated Guided Response (TIGR) Patient Education System. TIGR is an interactive patient education system featuring video-on-demand access to a library of health-related educational videos.

Each patient room at IPMC is equipped with a flat screen television and a telephone – the main tools needed to operate TIGR. When a patient turns on their television, the welcome screen for TIGR is displayed. Patients can either watch regular cable or be guided through the automated TIGR system. Patients and staff members can also use the telephone to order these educational videos.

Nurses can customize videos based on a patient’s medical needs and/or treatment plans. For example, a diabetic patient would view educational programs tailored to managing and caring for diabetes. On completion of the video, patients have the option to take a short quiz. Results are then kept in the patient’s chart for follow-up by nursing staff.
