Shivani Dalal, M.D., is a hematologist and medical oncologist at Memorial Cancer Institute (MCI), part of Memorial Healthcare system, who cares for patients with brain tumors, melanoma and other cancers.

Dr. Dalal is helping establish MCl’s Cancer Neuroscience Repository, an initiative focused on aggressive cancers involving the central nervous system. Working alongside principal investigator Atif Hussein, M.D., and neurosurgeon Simon Buttrick, M.D., Dr. Dalal helps identify eligible patients and integrate their care with biospecimen and molecular research.

The repository will connect tumor tissue, blood and other samples with clinical, imaging, treatment and outcomes data. Researchers aim to use molecular analysis, biomarkers and artificial intelligence to better understand tumor behavior, treatment response and resistance – ultimately informing more personalized treatment and future therapies.

“What excites me most about the future of cancer care is the remarkable pace of research and innovation,” Dr. Dalal said. Her goal is to help transform cancer into a disease that can increasingly be prevented, controlled and ultimately cured.
