For Yadira Mangual, MSW, being a social worker means lending a helping hand when patients and families need it most. She works to ease the practical and emotional challenges that can accompany a cancer diagnosis and treatment.

Originally from New York, Mangual has lived in South Florida for three years and is pursuing her clinical social work license while working full time. Bilingual in English and Spanish, she is assigned to Broward Health Medical Center’s infusion center, where she builds strong relationships with patients and helps connect them with needed resources.

Whether addressing financial or transportation challenges, finding a chaplain or helping caregivers manage stress, Mangual looks for ways to support each patient holistically.

She’s also proud of the hospital’s oncology support group, stepping in as a facilitator when needed and helping create a sense of community.

“I’m loving on my patients,” Mangual said. “I want them to feel seen, supported and cared for.”
