For Genesis Siliezar-Orellana, MSW, social work is about making sure patients feel heard, seen and supported.
She attended Florida Atlantic University, earning both her undergraduate degree and Master of Social Work, before coming to Broward Health North as a social work intern, where she completed eight months of clinical training. She joined the hospital’s team a year and a half ago after working at a skilled nursing facility.
Siliezar-Orellana has a strong connection with her geriatric patients, who often need additional support navigating care options and planning for what comes next.
Thriving in a fast-paced environment, Siliezar-Orellana helps patients and families navigate everything from acute care and oncology treatments to rehabilitation and long-term care, finding the safest discharge plan, mental health and community resources, and appropriate post-hospital care.
“Every patient has a different story and different needs,” she said. “Knowing they have someone who will listen to them, help them work through their emotions and find a safe path forward is incredibly rewarding.”
