As South Florida healthcare organizations continue to compete for nurses, Florida Atlantic University is expanding its undergraduate nursing offerings with another route into the profession.

FAU’s Christine E. Lynn College of Nursing is launching a new Traditional Bachelor of Science in Nursing track, with the first cohort scheduled to begin in May 2027. The limited-access, competitive program is designed for students who have completed Florida Atlantic’s general education requirements or hold an Associate of Arts degree from a Florida state college.

The new track complements the college’s Freshman Direct Admit track for students entering directly from high school and its accelerated BSN track for applicants who already hold a bachelor’s degree or higher.

“This is an exciting addition to our undergraduate nursing programs,” says Cameron G. Duncan, Ph.D., DNP, dean of Florida Atlantic University’s Christine E. Lynn College of Nursing. “We want students considering a career in nursing to see our college as a place where they can build their future, no matter where they are in their educational journey, or whether they began their education here at Florida Atlantic or another institution.”

Preparing Nurses for Professional Practice

The curriculum and clinical requirements of the Traditional track will mirror those of students enrolled in Florida Atlantic’s Freshman Direct Admit and accelerated BSN tracks. Students will complete 60 credits of upper-division nursing coursework over five semesters while gaining clinical experiences in various healthcare settings, including hospitals and community sites.

Throughout the program, students will have access to dedicated student success faculty and learning assistants who work alongside faculty to provide additional academic support through small-group learning.

Upon graduation, students will be eligible to take the NCLEX-RN licensure examination and begin practicing as registered nurses.

Applications Open in November

Applications for the inaugural summer 2027 cohort are expected to open in mid-November through NursingCAS, the centralized application service used by nursing programs. A link to the application will be available through the Christine E. Lynn College of Nursing website.

Applicants must complete all required prerequisite courses, have a cumulative transfer GPA of at least 3.5, and complete the ATI Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS), Edition VII nursing entrance examination.

Meeting the minimum admission requirements does not guarantee acceptance into the track. Once a completed application is submitted, applications will undergo a competitive review process to determine admission.

“The Christine E. Lynn College of Nursing has built its reputation on preparing nurses who combine clinical excellence with a deep commitment to caring,” Duncan says. “As we expand opportunities for students to pursue a nursing education, our focus remains on equipping graduates with the knowledge, clinical judgment and compassion to meet the evolving needs of patients and communities.”
