Healthgrades ranks Lee Health’s hospitals in the top 2% percent in the United States for patient outcomes, quality

January 17, 2023 — Out of about 4,500 hospitals in the United States, all four Lee Health acute care hospitals have been named as recipients of Healthgrades® ‘America’s 100 Best Hospitals’ award for 2023.

It’s the first time that all four Lee Health hospitals were included among the 100 Best Hospitals in the country. This places Lee Health hospitals in the top 2% percent of hospitals nationwide by Healthgrades, a leading online resource for information about physicians and hospitals.

Lee Health’s hospitals earned these distinctions for consistently exhibiting comprehensive, quality care across all clinical areas.

“I couldn’t be prouder of our team members. They earned these very impressive recognitions because of their passion and commitment to caring for our community members. It’s because of them that our hospitals are consistently recognized as some of the best in the nation,” said Larry Antonucci, M.D., president and chief executive officer of Lee Health. “I also want to recognize and thank our Board of Directors for their commitment to serving our community and working to further our dedication to provide the highest quality care.”

“In the face of the pandemic and Hurricane Ian, we have remained focused on delivering high-quality health care to the Southwest Florida community. We couldn’t do this without our dedicated team members, who provide extraordinary care to our friends, neighbors and visitors every single day.”

The Healthgrades list is based entirely on clinical quality outcomes for 31 conditions and procedures. Healthgrades evaluates hospital performance for more than 4,500 hospitals across the nation annually based on Medicare inpatient data from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services Medicare Provider Analysis and Review (MedPAR) database. No hospital can opt-in or opt-out, nor can they pay to be evaluated.

In addition to earning a spot on the America’s 100 Best Hospitals list, all Lee Health acute care facilities have also been recognized in the Best Specialty category as America’s 100 Best Hospitals for Stroke Care and Pulmonary Care. Cape Coral Hospital also made the list for Gastrointestinal Care. Lee Health hospitals have received these honors for the past several years.

While Gulf Coast Medical Center made the list of America’s 100 Best Hospitals for the first time this year, it has been named one of America’s Best 250 Hospitals for the past five years in a row.

Cape Coral Hospital has been named one of America’s 100 Best Hospitals for the past three years, and it was ranked one of America’s 250 Best Hospitals this year for fifth consecutive year.

For the past two years in a row, Lee Memorial Hospital and HealthPark Medical Center have made the list of America’s 100 Best Hospitals, and for the past six years, have been on the list of America’s Best 250 Hospitals.

Children’s hospitals are not ranked in this list.
