March 7 2022 – In a letter today, the American Medical Association (AMA) strongly supported the Biden Administration’s proposal for Medicare Advantage (MA) network adequacy. Under the proposal, MA plan applicants must demonstrate a sufficient network of contracted physicians to care for beneficiaries before the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services will approve an application for a new or expanded MA plan. These strengthened plans will enable patients to access needed services.

The AMA letter also includes support for the proposal to help Medicare patients with their drug costs by including all pharmacy price concessions in the definition of “negotiated price.” That should help lower Medicare patients’ cost-sharing for prescription drugs.
