Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital Foundation will present its “Joe DiMaggio American Icon Award” to James Patterson. The award is given annually to those who represent the values for which the iconic Joe DiMaggio stood and whose contributions have influenced American society. 
 
Patterson is one of the world’s bestselling authors and a trusted storyteller. He has created many enduring fictional characters and series, including Alex Cross, the Women’s Murder Club, Michael Bennett, Maximum Ride, Middle School, I Funny, and Jacky Ha-Ha. Among his notable literary collaborations are The President Is Missing, with President Bill Clinton, and the Max Einstein series, produced in partnership with the Albert Einstein estate. 
 
Patterson has given over a million books to schoolkids, more than $40 million to support education, and endowed more than 5,000 college scholarships for teachers. 
This is the 6th annual ‘American Icon’ event. Prior honorees include the aforementioned Bill Clinton, Earvin “Magic” Johnson, Pat Riley, Emilio & Gloria Estefan, and Derek Jeter. The event will be held on Thursday, March 28, 2019 (6:30 p.m.) at the Diplomat Beach Resort, 3555 S. Ocean Drive, Hollywood, FL 33019. Cost per ticket is $250, plus sponsorship opportunities available.
