June 8, 2021 – Florida Blue, the Blue Cross and Blue Shield plan of Florida, and New Directions Behavioral Health, a leading coordinated behavioral health care organization, announced a collaboration with Shatterproof, a national nonprofit organization dedicated to ending the devastation addiction causes families.  Through their collaboration, the companies will offer Floridians access to ATLAS®, an easy-to-use database that highlights high-quality addiction treatment options available in the state.

 

 

Anyone with older parents has experienced the frustration of trying to explain the hows and whys relating to any one of a number of technological devices. For our aging population, the digital divide is real. 

 

During the pandemic, the lack of technological knowledge among older adults was even further magnified. Telehealth became the primary connection between the elderly and healthcare professionals. Tech tools and apps became a primary method for communication and day-to-day functioning. The pandemic has undeniably underscored the importance of technology, which sits at the center of our world’s function. As technology accelerates the pace of everyday life, it’s important that we don’t leave our aging population behind.
 

  

June 7, 2021 – Florida Atlantic University’s Ruth M. Tappen, Ed.D., RN, FAAN, the Christine E. Lynn Eminent Scholar and professor in the Christine E. Lynn College of Nursing, was recently recognized as the “2021 Alliance World Class Faculty” honoree by the Greater Fort Lauderdale Alliance. Tappen, a member of the FAU Brain Institute and FAU Institute for Human Health and Disease Prevention, received the award during the alliance’s mid-year luncheon with more than 500 members and guests in attendance. The Greater Fort Lauderdale Alliance is Broward County’s official public/private partnership for economic development.
