May 21, 2021 – Baptist Health’s Mariners Hospital is proud to announce that Elizabeth Giguere, BSN, R.N., CEN, CCRN, has been named the hospital’s 2021 Nurse of the Year.

This award is given annually to candidates who are nominated by their peers or a community member and selected by the hospital’s Collaborative Nurse Practice Council. Recipients are compassionate, knowledgeable, ethical and dedicated to improving patient care and fostering teamwork.

Mrs. Giguere, a senior member of the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Mariners Hospital, embodies all of these qualities and more. She was nominated for this award by a co-worker, who said: “[Elizabeth’s] years of critical care experience help to lead the night shift in providing excellent care to our patients. Her experience ensures that our patients are getting the best care possible, and her love of helping people defines our culture here at Mariners. She represents the caring and empathy part of our profession while also demonstrating the clinical, scientific and research part of our profession.”

Mrs. Giguere understands the importance of ensuring best practices are implemented in the ICU. She keeps abreast of the most up-to-date research in her practice area and models her practice to reflect this research. At the beginning of the pandemic, she took an active role in assuring the safety of all staff members caring for COVID patients. Mrs. Giguere is a member of the Pathway Committee and a contributing author of the 2018 and 2022 Mariners Hospital Pathway to Excellence application documents. As an active member of the ICU Practice Council, she also assisted in the unit’s process to earn the Beacon Award for Excellence from the American Association of Critical Care Nurses.

“Nurses play such a vital role in healthcare,” said Drew Grossman, CEO of Mariners Hospital. “Without nurses like Elizabeth, the care that patients receive would be vastly different. We rely on them to provide quality compassionate care, and Elizabeth is known for just that. She is an incredible asset to our team.”
