Approximately 8,400 surgical procedures are performed each year at Bethesda Memorial Hospital. Recognizing the need for patients requiring inpatient and outpatient surgery, Bethesda constructed entirely new operating room suites.
New Operating Room Suite at Bethesda Memorial Hospital
The operating room suites are fully integrated and include 12 new, state-of-the-art operating suites, one minor procedures room and one cystoscopy room. The operating rooms are equipped with touch screen technology, which allows operating room nurses to control a variety of surgical equipment. Laparoscopic images are produced in high definition (HD) to improve clarity for physicians and digital x-ray images can be projected onto overhead HD monitors. For teaching purposes, two operating room suites are equipped with cameras that are built into surgical lights.

With the opening of these new operating rooms, demolition of the existing operating rooms has begun and renovation will begin in the recovery and ambulatory surgery areas of the hospital. This project will take place over the next 18 to 24 months.
Scrub Room in New OR at Bethesda Memorial Hospital
Also on the horizon is The Walter S. and Lucienne Driskill Endovascular Center scheduled to open summer 2008 at Bethesda. The Driskill Endovascular Center will allow surgeons to care for patients with vascular problems using minimally invasive procedures.
