October 20, 2022– Boca Raton Regional Hospital, part of Baptist Health, is the first in South Florida to use a novel ablation system to help treat select patients with atrial fibrillation (AF). The new technology called the DiamondTemp™ Ablation (DTA) system is the first FDA-approved, temperature-controlled, irrigated radiofrequency (RF) ablation system with diamonds currently available to deliver ablations. Murray Rosenbaum, M.D. is the first electrophysiologist to use this new technology at the hospital.

“With the DiamondTemp system, we are now able to offer our patients a comprehensive set of arrhythmia solutions, which is particularly important for those paroxysmal AF patients who are not responsive to drug therapy,” said Dr. Rosenbaum, electrophysiologist on staff at Boca Raton Regional Hospital, part of Baptist Health. “We always strive to deliver high-quality patient care, and this innovative technology is another step forward in providing our patients with the latest clinical advancements to manage their cardiac conditions.”

AF is one of the most common and undertreated heart rhythm disorders, affecting more than 37 million people worldwide. A heart in AF beats significantly faster than a normal heartbeat meaning blood is not pumped completely out of the atria and may pool and clot. When left untreated, AF patients have a five times higher chance of having a stroke, and an increased chance of developing heart failure.

AF ablation using radiofrequency (RF) energy is a minimally invasive approach used to create scar tissue, using heat, to interrupt irregular electrical signals in the heart and restore normal heart rhythm.

The DTA system provides an ablation solution for patients with recurrent, symptomatic paroxysmal AF and who are unresponsive to drug therapy. The DTA catheter is embedded with industrial-grade diamonds, which have 200-400 times greater thermal conductivity when compared to materials used in conventional RF ablation catheters

As the only open-irrigated catheter with industrial diamonds to optimize power based on tissue temperature, the DTA system is safe and effective and has demonstrated procedural efficiencies when compared to conventional contact force-sensing RF catheters.
