ECRI representatives presented Broward Health leaders and supply chain and procurement staff with a 2022 Healthcare Supply Chain Excellence Award

November 30, 2022 – Broward Health was recently presented with a Healthcare Supply Chain Excellence Award from ECRI in recognition of its supply chain processes and spending management. Broward Health joins Ohio State University, Nationwide Children’s Hospital and other prominent systems as one of only 11 nationally to receive a 2022 Healthcare Supply Chain Excellence Award. This year marks the second time Broward Health has received this prestigious recognition.

“Since 2020, U.S. hospitals have faced extraordinary pandemic-related challenges pertaining to medical supply disruptions and shortages, and other global market forces. This year, it is especially rewarding to recognize 11 of our healthcare members for overcoming obstacles and achieving overall supply chain successes using our data-driven solutions,” said Marcus Schabacker, M.D., Ph.D., president and chief executive officer, ECRI. “A big congratulations to our winners—we are honored to partner with them in keeping patients safe.”

The award specifically recognizes ECRI members who demonstrate exemplary utilization of services across the procurement lifecycle, including budgeting, benchmarking, technology assessment and strategic development. Partnering with ECRI, Broward Health was able to identify more than $80 million in potential savings.

“I am incredibly proud of the supply chain team we have at Broward Health,” said Jorge F. Hernandez, vice president of supply chain and chief procurement officer for Broward Health. “This award recognizes their important behind-the-scenes work to ensure we have the supplies needed to provide high-quality patient care, and that we’re procuring those supplies in the most fiscally responsible manner.”

“These winners consistently applied effective processes to make clinically sound and evidence-based decisions for supply and capital technology procurement using data analytics, best practices, and leadership engagement,” said Tim Browne, vice president, supply chain solutions, ECRI. “We are delighted to partner with these healthcare leaders and contribute to their successes.”
