January 7, 2020 –  Community Foundation of Broward has issued a call for grant applications for programs that help Broward residents achieve good health through cancer research and support services for cancer patients, as well as structured physical activity programs and projects to promote healthy eating habits.  Applications for “Cancel Cancer” and “BFit” grants of up to $100,000 are due by Feb. 14, 2020.

The new Cancel Cancer and Bfit grants will further the Foundation’s efforts to address these important “Issues That Matter” in Broward, according to Sheri Brown, Vice President of Community Impact. “We are making progress in establishing Broward County as a center for innovative cancer research, while also helping Broward residents achieve healthier lifestyles.”

According to Linda B. Carter, President and CEO of Community Foundation of Broward, the Foundation wants to make Broward a place where people live long, healthy and happy lives.  It also seeks to make Broward a hub for collaborative cancer research and ideas.

“We want to enable accessibility for Broward residents to revolutionary discoveries in cancer therapy and to provide support systems for all Broward cancer patients,” she said.  “We also want to improve the health of Broward residents through increased physical activity and access to healthy food.”

Applications for Cancel Cancer research grants should focus on clinical trials phase I, II and or III, in order to produce new, innovative and breakthrough cancer treatments that are well-designed and utilize random critical trials to improve cancer care.

Applications for Cancel Cancer support services for cancer patients grants should demonstrate measurable outcomes in emotional and psychological support for cancer patients, or in cancer patients receiving transportation or temporary financial assistance.

Applications for BFit grants should include one or both of the following:

Structured physical activity that is easily accessible to residents and takes place over an eight-month or longer time period
Promotion of healthy eating habits that inspire residents to take charge of their health

Online applications are being accepted through Feb. 14, 2020.  Multiple grants of up to $100,000 will be awarded in June, 2020.  To be eligible, applicants must be 501(c)3 nonprofit organizations providing services to Broward County residents.  City and county agencies are also eligible, if their projects demonstrate charitable intent.  Individuals are not eligible.  Here are the links to begin the online grant application process: https://www.cfbroward.org/grant-opportunities/bfit and https://www.cfbroward.org/grant-opportunities/cancel-cancer
