The working rhythm of the electrophysiology lab, which can appear chaotic but is actually a highly-coordinated environment, is what initially drew Dr. Fergie Losiniecki to become a cardiac electrophysiologist, a sub-specialty where less than 10% of the operators are board-certified women.
“Patients and other physicians are often surprised to see a woman working in this space,” said Dr. Losiniecki, whose fellowship training at the Medical University of South Carolina provided expertise in complex catheter ablation, lead extraction, and cardiac pacing. “I’m grateful for the training that allows me to perform procedures that enable medically-complex patients to live better lives, even if that took some pioneering of uncharted territory for someone like me.”
Dr. Losiniecki notes that hers is one of the few medical specialties where physicians are able to lessen the amount of medication a patient requires. A South Floridian by way of Ecuador and Argentina, she joined Memorial Healthcare System in 2024.
