Children’s Diagnostic & Treatment Center (CDTC) dedicated the Center’s Family Living Center to the SMART Ride (Southern Most AIDS/HIV Ride) in May. CDTC’s Comprehensive Family AIDS Program (CFAP) is one of seven programs in the state selected to benefit from the annual cycling event. Over the past seven years, CFAP has received more than $850,000 to provide vital medical and social services to women and children infected and affected by HIV in Broward County.
The SMART Ride is a two-day, 165-mile bike ride from Miami to Key West that raises funds and awareness for HIV/AIDS. Founder Glen Weinzimer and President & CEO John Rogatzki guarantee 100% of the funds raised provide direct services to those most in need. CDTC is one of seven HIV/AIDS agencies in the state chosen to take part in this year’s ride.
Members of the CDTC Cyclones team ride and fundraise to help CFAP go beyond what insurance provides and enrich the health and lives of clients. SMART Ride dollars at the Center covers HIV testing, medical care and medications when insurance is not enough. Care Coordinators and Social Workers can also remove barriers to care thanks to funds from the ride. Transportation, support groups, retreats, summer camp, emergency assistance and HIV education are all provided by funds raised at the Ride.
