March 3, 2021 – Board-certified breast medical oncologist Charles Vogel, M.D., FACP, joins Baptist Health’s Miami Cancer Institute. Dr. Vogel specializes in breast cancer treatment and prevention. He is board-certified in medical oncology and internal medicine.

Prior to joining Miami Cancer Institute, Dr. Vogel practiced as a breast medical oncologist in the southern Florida area for more than 40 years. A long-term thought leader in breast medical oncology for many institutions, he practiced at the Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center’s Deerfield Beach location for the past 10 years. He also served as a professor of medicine at the University of Miami, Miller School of Medicine.
In the 1970s, Dr. Vogel served as the chief of the National Cancer Institute’s Uganda Cancer Institute. After practicing in Uganda, he received the United States Public Health Service Commendation Medal.
In 2019, Dr. Vogel was awarded the First Annual “Legend in Cancer Care” award at Total Health Conferencing’s “Best of Breast” conference. That same year, he also received the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce’s “Health Care Heroes” award ceremony.
More than 250 of Dr. Vogel’s manuscripts have been published in peer-reviewed publications. During his time in Uganda, he was part of the research team that demonstrated the relationship between hepatitis and primary liver cancer. He also published one of three initial clinical trials of Herceptin for women with breast cancer. Another one of Dr. Vogel’s papers changed the national and international guidelines for the use of Neulasta, which helps prevent infection in people undergoing chemotherapy.
Dr. Vogel earned his medical degree from the Yale School of Medicine. He completed his residency at Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta.
He will see patients at Baptist Health’s new wellness and medical complex in Plantation, located at 1228 South Pine Island Road.
