Event to Benefit Children’s Crisis Center

May 6, 2022—Community Health of South Florida, Inc. (CHI), will team up with former NBA superstar, Glen Rice and other notable guests, to tee off at the exclusive Deering Bay Yacht and Country Club for a community cause. The Glen Rice Celebrity Golf Tournament benefiting the Children’s Crisis Center takes place Monday, May 16, between 10:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. at the Deering Bay Yacht and Country Club, 13610 Deering Bay Drive, Miami, FL., 33158.

As a celebrity ambassador for Community Health of South Florida Inc. (CHI), Glen Rice is committed to spreading awareness about the impact CHI is making in this community. A three-time NBA All-Star, Rice played for the Miami Heat, Charlotte Hornets, Los Angeles Lakers, New York Knicks, Houston Rockets and Los Angeles Clippers, scoring 1,559 three-point field goals during his 15-year career as a small forward.

As an ambassador for CHI, Rice will host the celebrity golf tournament and the subsequent awards dinner which begins after the tournament at 5:30 p.m. The proceeds will help complete the construction of the first Children’s Crisis Center in the South Miami Dade community.

The Center will be an 11,400-square-foot, in-patient 24-hour facility that will be a haven for children suffering from mental illness. A caring team of board-certified child and adolescent psychiatrists, social workers, counselors and mental health clinicians will be ready to diagnose and treat a variety of emotional and behavioral problems. The goal is to provide full-service mental health care for children up to 17 years of age, regardless of their ability to pay. CHI joined community leaders to break ground on the project and construction is underway.

“There are nearly 200,000 children in Florida living with serious mental illnesses,” said Blake Hall, CHI President and CEO. “More than half of those kids don’t have access to these life transforming services. By bringing together South Florida celebrities, philanthropists and other notable guests united in their generosity, we get closer and closer to making CHI’s Children’s Crisis Center a reality. For these South Florida children in need, this can make all the difference.”
