Organization among 103 local nonprofit recipients of a record $5.35 million in funding

June 29 2020 – Clinics Can Help (CCH) is proud to be the recipient of a $2,760 Honda Classic 2020 grant, which will be used purchase children’s wheelchairs for its Kinder Project which serves children across South Florida. The annual PGA Tour event’s host organization, Children’s Healthcare Charity, Inc., will impact the lives of 91,000 local children and families with grants totaling a record-shattering $5.35 million, up $250K from 2019. Grants are distributed during Honda Classic Cares Week, celebrated virtually from June 22-26th.

Founded in 2005, CCH is Florida’s only nonprofit organization that collects, cleans, refurbishes and then donates new and gently used medical equipment and supplies for children and adults in need. With this donation, the organization will purchase 30 standard children’s wheelchairs to be given out to pediatric clients with orthopedic limitations. The funded program will be ongoing from one year from the date of receipt of wheelchairs or until all wheelchairs are donated to families.

Many local children come to CCH because of post-surgical rehab, fractures and sports injuries so the need is great. “The lightweight chairs are easier to propel and transport than adult wheelchairs. They come with “flip back arms,” which allow for easy transfer and make it possible for the chair to slide under a table so the child can be a part of the social group,” shared Clinics Can Help’s CEO and founder, Owen O’Neill.

O’Neill says the wheelchairs to be purchased by CCH will also be equipped with elevating leg rests, an important feature because many injuries and/or fractures require the injured leg to be elevated in order to heal properly. He added, “Research has shown that patients who have access to appropriate medical equipment heal faster, are protected against further injury and have the independence for a high quality of life.”

The Honda Classic PGA Tour event has increased its annual giving for the past 14 consecutive years since the event was moved to PGA National Resort and Spa. The Honda Classic Cares mission of giving back to the children of the community is reflected by more than 80% of all distributed funds being allocated to improving pediatric services. While the tournament strives to provide Palm Beach County with a premier professional sporting event, the ultimate goal is to positively impact youth in need and create a brighter future for our community. Next year’s Honda Classic golf tournament is planned from March 18-21,2021 at PGA National Resort & Spa.
