October 18, 2021 – The Congress of Neurological Surgeons is pleased to announce Douglas Kondziolka, MD, MSc, FRCSC, FACS, as the next Editor-in-Chief of NEUROSURGERY® Publications, following the impressive tenure of Nelson M. Oyesiku, MD, MSc (Lond), PhD, FACS.

Nelson M. Oyesiku, MD, MSc (Lond), PhD, FACS, Professor & Chair, Department of Neurosurgery, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, has served as Editor-in-Chief of NEUROSURGERY® Publications since June 2009. Under his leadership, NEUROSURGERY®  Publications has expanded to include 3 journals, Neurosurgery, Operative Neurosurgery, and Neurosurgery Open, which are served by vibrant, dedicated Editorial Boards of domestic and international neurosurgeons and allied field professionals. In the last year the journals received over 4,000 submissions. During Dr. Oyesiku’s tenure Neurosurgery achieved its highest ever Impact Factor of 4.889 with the 2016 Impact Factor.

I am delighted to have played a small role in helping shape the science of our specialty. After an international search and extremely competitive selection process, Douglas Kondziolka, MD, MSc, FRCSC, FACS, Gray Family Professor of Neurosurgery, NYU Langone Medical Center, New York University, has been selected to succeed Dr. Oyesiku. Dr. Kondziolka currently serves as Associate Editor for the Journal of Neurosurgery Publishing Group.

In early 2022, a formal transition process will begin with Dr. Oyesiku acting as Editor-in-Chief, and Dr. Kondziolka as Editor-in-Chief Elect. Beginning September 1, 2022, Dr. Kondziolka will assume full duties as Editor-in-Chief of NEUROSURGERY® Publications.
