Throughout 2016, Delray Medical Center has proved its commitment to providing a high level of care to the community through its expanded services and innovative technology. Below are some of this year’s most noteworthy achievements:
Stand-alone Emergency Center
A new type of emergency care arrived in Lake Worth when Delray Medical Center opened the area’s first stand-alone Emergency Center. Designed for minimal wait times in a warm, home-like environment, the Emergency Center is an extension of Delray Medical Center’s Emergency Department and offers the same high-quality treatment and diagnostic services in an easy-access location.
New Parking Garage & Patient Tower
As a Level I Trauma Center, Delray continues to make significant investments in technology and renovations to ensure patients receive the highest level of care possible. This year, the hospital opened a four-level parking garage and is working on the construction of a four-story patient tower. The roof of the tower, which will consist of 96 patient rooms, will have a helipad with direct elevator access to the emergency department to expedite care for incoming trauma patients.
Bioresorbable Heart Stent
Delray Medical Center is one of only two hospitals in South Florida to commercially utilize the Abbott Absorb bioresorbable vascular scaffold in the treatment of coronary artery disease. The innovative device is inserted into a patient’s clogged artery to keep it open and restore blood flow, and then gradually disappears in about three years.
America’s 50 Best Hospitals
Delray Medical Center was a recipient of the America’s 50 Best Hospitals Award™ for the 10th year in a row. This distinction puts the hospital in the top 1% of more than 4,500 hospitals nationwide for its consistent, year-over-year superior clinical performance as measured by Healthgrades. In South Florida, Delray was the only hospital to receive the award.
Magellan Robotic System
Delray Medical Center is the first and only hospital in Palm Beach County to acquire the Magellan™ Robotic System, which enables physicians to perform complex, yet minimally invasive, endovascular procedures with extraordinary accuracy. Dr. Joseph Ricotta, vascular surgeon, was the first in the southeastern U.S. to utilize the MagellanTM robot. The technology offers treatment for peripheral vascular disease.
NeuroBlate System
The hospital introduced the addition of an image-guided robotic technology designed to treat patients diagnosed with brain tumors and lesions. The NeuroBlate® System uses real-time magnetic resonance imaging to guide a laser probe that applies heat to the growth, in controlled amounts, until the diseased tissue is destroyed.

America’s 100 Best for Stroke Care
Delray was named one of America’s 100 Best Hospitals™ for Stroke Care six years in a row by Healthgrades. For its analysis, Healthgrades evaluated nearly 4,500 hospitals nationwide for 34 of the most common inpatient procedures and conditions. The organization also recognized Delray Medical Center with Specialty Excellence in Cranial Neurosurgery, Critical Care, as well as eight additional 5-star achievements.
Blue Distinction Center for Cardiac Care
Delray was recognized by Florida Blue as a Blue Distinction® Center for Cardiac Care, part of the Blue Distinction Specialty Care program. Blue Distinction Centers are nationally designated health care facilities shown to deliver improved patient safety and outcomes based on objective measures that were developed with input from the medical community.
