March 31, 2025 – Dr. Joseph Ricotta, National Medical Director of Vascular Surgery and Endovascular Therapy for Tenet Healthcare, Professor of Surgery and Vascular Surgery Fellowship Program Director at Florida Atlantic University’s School of Medicine, and founder of the Prime Vascular Institute, has reached a major milestone, completing his 400th Transcarotid Artery Revascularization (TCAR) procedure. In 2018, Dr. Ricotta made history by performing the first TCAR procedure in South Florida.
TCAR is a minimally invasive technique for treating carotid artery disease, a condition where plaque buildup narrows the arteries supplying blood to the brain. This innovative procedure offers a safer, more efficient way to clear blockages and restore normal blood flow, significantly reducing the risk of stroke.
“Reaching 400 TCAR procedures means we remain a trusted healthcare source by our patients for critical care in South Florida. It’s also a testament to our team’s dedication to delivering the most advanced treatments for carotid artery disease and stroke prevention,” Dr. Ricotta said.
Dr. Ricotta’s expertise in the field has earned him numerous accolades, including the prestigious TCAR Clinical Operator of Excellence distinction from Silk Road Medical in 2020, an award recognizing top physicians for superior outcomes in TCAR procedures. With over two decades of experience, Dr. Ricotta has also been repeatedly recognized as a National Top Doctor by Castle Connolly, voted one of America’s Best Vascular Surgeons by Newsweek Magazine, and has contributed more than 300 peer-reviewed articles to medical literature.
