June 22 2020 – ELAN, a Miami-based clothing manufacturer, has donated 40,000 masks to Memorial Healthcare System (MHS) for use by individuals at facilities where COVID-19 patients are being treated.
The company (www.shopelan.com and IG: @elanusa) retro-fitted its physical plant and had staff shift to mask production as part of its #MasksforHeroes campaign.
ELAN’s owner, Elan Savir, committed to contributing 40,000 masks in the early days of the coronavirus pandemic when it became clear the usual manufacturing sources wouldn’t be able to keep pace with increased demand from public and private entities. Savir also helped secure elastic for Memorial’s in-house mask production.
“For seven weeks, ELAN clothing seamstresses worked exclusively on making masks,” said Savir. “We’re very proud to have been able to have been of service, to help, and very grateful that we’re in a much different place with the need for this product than when we started.”
At its peak, ELAN was making and shipping 10,000 masks per week to MHS, which operates numerous facilities and a COVID-19 testing site (in partnership with the State of Florida and National Guard) in South Florida.
