With 19 years at Memorial Healthcare System, including 17 years in emergency medicine and 16 years as a registered nurse, Alex Castro, RN, has built a career grounded in leadership, compassion, and decisive action. As Director of Nursing for Adult and Pediatric Emergency Services at Memorial Hospital West, he oversees emergency operations, outpatient infusion services and hospital-wide emergency management initiatives.

Castro was pulled toward emergency medicine by its unpredictability and the opportunity to make an immediate impact. Today, he remains committed to supporting both patients and staff in high-pressure situations.

Known for his “compassionate efficiency” approach, Castro believes empathy and safety must coexist in emergency care. “I am inspired by the resilience of my team and the emergency department’s role as a safety net for our community,” Castro said. “Whether pulling together to save a life or comforting a grieving family, those moments remind me why we do this work.”
