FIU’s MS in Health Informatics and Analytics Program Opening Second Online Cohort this October

This interdisciplinary field of health informatics and analytics advances the study and use of health-related data, information, problem-solving, and organizational decision-making. The end goal: to improve both the health of individual consumers, and healthcare delivery. 


 

FIU’s Master of Science in Health Informatics and Analytics program, housed at FIU Business, offers its students a high quality degree that will give them a competitive advantage in the field. As technological advances continue to transform the healthcare industry, the demand for skilled professionals in health informatics and analytics will continue to grow.

 

The MSHI&A program opened its first cohort in August 2012, and operated as a traditional face-to-face program for several years. The program was originally designed to be completed in a year and was later converted into a 14-month program. Nelis Mir, assistant director of academic services in FIU’s College of Business Information Systems and Business Analytics Department, where the MSHI&A program is housed, also noted that since most students are working professionals, offering convenient options for study that meet students’ needs is a high priority of the program.

 

After a successful hybrid (face-to-face and online) cohort, the MSHI&A program launched its first fully online cohort in October 2017. Using innovative technologies and methodologies, including real world electronic medical records systems, the program has been able to offer students the ability to interact, a sense of belonging to a cohort, and a platform for teamwork even in a virtual environment. The cohort of diverse professionals allows students to absorb a wide range of vantage points and experiences. Online students can also access a full array of services provided by the college’s Career Management Services (CMS) office, including resume review, job fairs, mock interview skills, an online job database, and other career-focused services.

 

This 14-month fully online program not only prepares students to enter the healthcare field, but also allows them to work in a wide range of industries- with alumni working in companies such as; Baptist Health South Florida, Deloitte, FedEx, Florida Department of Children and Families, and Nicklaus Children’s Hospital.
