Florida Medical Center has acquired new CT scanning technology the Siemens SOMATOM Sensation 64 slice multi-scanner. The hospital will use the scanner to help streamline screening and treatment for coronary artery disease, offering patients a procedure that is straightforward, painless and faster than traditional coronary artery exams.
The scanner uses two X-ray projections to capture more data than single-projection machines, resulting in faster exams for patients a great benefit for those too ill to withstand longer diagnostic methods, such as conventional stress tests. The Sensation 64 provides clearer pictures and real-time imaging of anatomy, including the beating of the heart, allowing physicians to quickly and more accurately pinpoint signs of coronary artery disease and develop treatments with greater precision.
