As a not-for-profit, community-based health care organization, Martin Health System has a long history of offering a continuum of care – including preventive, primary and acute hospital care, as well as cancer and cardiac care, wellness and rehabilitation services. For nearly 75 years, Martin Health System in Stuart has focused on providing access to exceptional health care for Treasure Coast residents.

In 2013, the health system’s accomplishments included the opening of two new hospitals as well as several notable recognitions and achievements in the industry:

• In December, Martin Health is scheduled to open the doors of Tradition Medical Center in Port St. Lucie. This 90-bed acute care hospital features the following services: general and specialized medicine, general and specialized surgery, inpatient oncology, intensive care unit, emergency department, labor and delivery and neonatal intensive care unit. In addition, the hospital will play a pivotal role in clinical research studies being performed by the life sciences organizations that are also located on the campus of the Tradition Center for Innovation.

• In June, Martin Health partnered with HealthSouth Corporation to open a new comprehensive medical rehabilitation hospital in Martin County. The 34-bed HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital at Martin South provides comprehensive physical rehabilitation to patients who have experienced stroke, trauma, brain and orthopedic injuries or other major illness or injuries.

• For the fourth year in a row and the eighth year overall, Martin Health System was named one of the Truven Health Analytics 100 Top Hospitals in the United States. The study has been conducted annually since 1993. In that time, only 34 hospitals have won the award eight times or more – approximately 1 percent of the total hospitals surveyed – including just five from Florida. Martin Health was among nine hospitals in Florida to earn recognition, and the only Treasure Coast hospital.

• For the second year in a row, Martin Health System was recognized as a Most Wired Hospitals and Health Systems winner by Hospitals and Health Networks magazine. Martin Health was one of only 289 hospitals to earn the recognition nationally, and one of just 11 in the state of Florida.

• Martin Health System was presented with the 2012 Outstanding Achievement Award by the American College of Surgeons’ Commission on Cancer. Martin Health System is one of a select group of only 79 U.S. health care facilities and just five in the state of Florida with accredited cancer programs to receive this national honor for surveys performed last year. The award acknowledges cancer programs that achieve excellence in providing quality care to cancer patients.

• Martin Health System was awarded the 2013 Frances Smith Clinical Excellence Award from the Florida Nurses Association. The Florida Nurses Association recognizes organizations that promote clinical excellence in nursing, demonstrated by participating in the annual FNA Clinical Excellence Conference, and creating an environment which encourages nurses to become clinically excellent. This includes nurse recognition events, demonstrating ongoing education and support for degree and certification programs, clinical ladders, support for preceptor and mentoring programs, residencies and specialty institutes.

• The Martin Health Foundation “LifeSavers” have been raising funds to benefit the health and well-being of Treasure Coast families since 2002. On July 20, the group of volunteers from Martin and St. Lucie counties hit a major milestone, topping $1 million in funds raised. They hit the mark with a sold-out Goombay Bash, the LifeSavers’ signature event, which drew 850 people to the Jensen Beach Causeway Park and raised a total of $180,000.
