Although there is no area completely unaffected, South Florida has been hit especially hard in the current pandemic. The Covid-19 crisis has brought a new awareness to the critical role nurses and medical assistants play in our healthcare system. We have heard and read countless stories of these dedicated professionals going above and beyond all expectations as they care for their patients, often serving as their only source of comfort.
The current spotlight on the profession has brought renewed interest in nursing education and career opportunities in healthcare and Fortis College is responding to that need. While social distancing protocols have required some adaptation, the faculty and staff at Fortis have risen to the challenge. Campus president Bruce Smith says, “As a College, we have moved to a distance education platform to ensure we can continue to support the nursing community with new safe practicing nurses and doing our part in closing the gap with the nursing shortage here in Florida.”
“Our students and graduates are on the healthcare front lines fighting COVID-19 here in south Florida.” Smith continues. “We are extremely proud of their efforts, as well as the tireless work all healthcare and essential workers are doing to support our community. “
For almost a decade, Fortis College in Cutler Bay has been providing quality nursing and medical assisting education to students in the great Miami area of Dade and Broward counties. Both traditional and non-traditional students have chosen to continue their post-secondary education through ACEN-accredited programs at Fortis.
