December 8 2021 – This week, two local South Florida nurses and their baby were treated to a bright holiday surprise. On Tuesday, Dec. 7, Florida Power & Light Company (FPL) “elves” decorated the family’s home for the holidays, with thousands of LED lights, solar-powered decorations and other energy-efficient décor.

Alexis Folgueira worked tirelessly throughout the COVID-19 pandemic at Baptist Health’s South Miami Hospital, voluntarily caring for the most critically ill patients. In doing so, she advocated for patients and families to receive the care they needed in order to give them the best of chances, all while being pregnant with her first child.

Dedicated to caring for her most vulnerable patients and supporting her ICU colleagues, Alexis even returned early from maternity leave to help support her team during an especially trying time. Her husband, Javier Folgueira, is also a nurse at Baptist Health’s West Kendall Baptist Hospital and a dedicated member of the Learning Development Institute team as well as the CPR Committee. Their colleagues at Baptist Health partnered with FPL to surprise them and their family with this special holiday makeover.
