In today’s complex, ever-changing healthcare environment, the Greystone Health Network’s continued success, growth and accomplishments lie in the central part of its mission: “Passionate People Providing Compassionate Care.”

Headquartered in Tampa, the Greystone Health Network encompasses 20 skilled nursing facilities in Florida and Ohio, multiple affiliated home health service providers, and offers consultation services to skilled nursing home operators. The company employs 4,000 people nationwide, with 800 working in the South Florida market alone.

“We offer post-acute solutions to our partners to reduce the cost of healthcare, improve the quality of the healthcare experience and facilitate the improvement of the overall health of the populations we serve,” said Bobby Vasquez, Vice President of Strategy at Greystone.

In the South Florida market, the Greystone Health Network includes Unity Health and Rehabilitation Center in Miami; North Beach Rehabilitation Center in North Miami Beach; and Wilton Manors Health & Rehabilitation Center in Ft. Lauderdale.

Services under the Greystone Health Network umbrella include:
Healthcare Management – Comprehensive operational and clinical management, including maximizing profitability, survey compliance, improving customer service and satisfaction, and achieving optimal outcomes.

Health Centers – Rehabilitation services, including complex skilled nursing management, in-house dialysis, nutrition management, complete IV management, complex wound care, tracheostomy care, specialized rehabilitation programming and AlterG® Antigravity Treadmill Rehabilitation. The Greystone Health Network includes the only post-acute provider in South Florida offering AlterG.

Home Health Services – Four home health agencies designed to extend skilled nursing services and offer a seamless transition from inpatient care to the home.

Greystone pioneered a homecare program called “Good Night SleepTight,” which ensures that every client receives a call to check on them before they retire for the evening, and “Moments of Mending,” which provides a check-in phone call within 72 hours of admission making sure clients are eating well, resting comfortably, and that they have everything they need.

Outpatient Rehabilitation – Physicial, occupational and speech therapy, with transportation provided to patients as needed.

Walk into any community that Greystone manages, and the first thing you’ll see is the word “BELIEVE,” said Kim Pero, Regional Director of Operations, South Florida. “It’s a constant reminder of our operating principles – Best Practices; Exceeding Expectations; Leading by Example; Investing in People; Empowering Associates; Valuing our Members; and Excited about our future.

For the Greystone Health Network, the future holds growth and expansion. “We have several acquisitions in the works to grow our operations within Florida and beyond, and we’re looking at expanding our post-acute presence in South Florida,” said Vasquez. Other future service additions include:

• A Transitional Care Program where a nurse navigator guides patients within the Greystone Health Network to the right place at the right time. The nurse oversees the patient’s entire plan of care, making the transition seamless, and also helping to engage the patient with community resources and medication/dietary compliance.

• Centers of Excellence in its facilities for cardiac care. The Centers of Excellence are a part of a company-based program including advanced protocols and extra CEU training specific to cardiac patient care. This specialized program includes full-time advanced practices nurses.

According to Vasquez, these plans help set Greystone ahead of the game in managing today’s industry challenges as well as withstand the impact of tomorrow’s changes.

“We are seeing a migration of sicker patients coming into our sector,” he said. “With a concurrent compression of reimbursement, we must do more with less and heighten our competency to take care of patients while optimizing every dollar.”

The Greystone Health Network is adapting an electronic medical record (EMR) to achieve a paperless environment. “The goal is to interface with hospitals and managed care partners so medical records will follow patients at the push of a button,” he said. “Ultimately, all information will go back to the primary care physician so the doctor has a chance to review and make clinical decisions based on the patient’s journey.”

“That’s the overall concept behind the Affordable Care Act – having primary care physicians being the spoke of the wheel, so they can provide the best course of care and prevent rehospitalization,” he added.

Pero noted that the team making up the Network – from the innovation group and researchers to the many experienced facility operators – are the “Passionate People Providing Compassionate Care” who make the Greystone Health Network the preeminent post-acute care solution for its business partners and patients.
